Validation of a prediction tool for cognitive decline in older adult individuals Lead Investigator: Enrica Cavedo Institution : QYNAPSE E-Mail : ecavedo@qynapse.com Proposal ID : 1199 Proposal Description: 1) The main aim of this project will be to test and validate an automatic predictive tool for the early detection of cognitive decline in cognitively intact older adults and patients with mild cognitive impairment. Computerized decision-support tool could assist physicians in the early diagnosis of cognitive impairment and Alzheimer?s Disease (AD), and have an impact on patient?s treatment. 2)Due to the significant failure of disease treatment for AD, the early identification of individuals at risk of developing cognitive decline and AD would allow the application of disease-modifying therapy to slow the disease progression at a point where clinical manifestations are still limited. It was estimated that even a modest delay of 1 year in the onset and progression of disease could drastically reduce the burden of AD on the society (Brookmeyer R et al., Alzheimers Dement. 2007). In this study, we would like to validate a computerize decision support tool based on an independent cohort of older adults with and without AD (such as the one developed by the NACC). Using neuroimaging methods, biological markers (CSF) and clinical data, we expect to predict individual global cognitive changes within 2 years. So far our tool have been tested exclusively on the ADNI and OASIS and internal clinical routine cohorts. The validation on an independent cohort will be necessary to replicate and verify the accuracy of our tool.
